Not a whole lot going on...

Hello! I haven't posted in awhile because I haven't felt particularly compelled to tell any exciting stories. Anyways here's a quick rundown of my life since my last post.


1. Softball season started back up. We've won all of our games, except one that we had to forfeit because of a lack of players. It's been fun though! I even hit a really nice triple. We're talking a real bonafide triple...not just a triple on errors. I burned the left fielder! Bwuahahah! If you can't tell...I'm still a little proud of myself.

2. I've been working at the Friendship Center and still having fun. I love my job!

3. I just finished my role as Bird Girl in Seussical the Musical. It was not my favorite role...I'll be honest. They're supposed to be sexy little birds. I don't consider myself sexy in the least bit...so it was hard. But I think I at least pulled off "cute flirty." Overall the musical was fun to do and I made some fun new friends, and got to spend time with friends from other shows!

4. I'm going to be auditioning soon for The Fantasticks. So fingers crossed that I get Louisa. It's a role I've wanted to play for a long time! After that, I'm going to have to slow down and give myself a theatre break. It turns out that it's nice to see my husband every once in awhile too! 

Before I post this I feel like it's worth mentioning that it's very springy in Houston...and I'm loving it. It's SO nice outside. I just love spring...despite the allergies!

Yeah, my friend has a business called The Fairytale Headquarters. Basically he hires out princesses for parties and events. It's been fun playing dress up! My favorite might be sleeping beauty. Snow White I feel, may not be my forte.

The last month or so

Well hello! It's been a crazy month. Let me share some of what's  been happening!

 Phil's friend from the KSU engineering program is getting his PhD at Texas A&M and came to visit us! He made us delicious home made thai food!

I'm super impressed with the kids in my cast! I really love little Gretl and Marta! They are too cute! Gretl even had to survive three scenes in a skirt that was falling down and couldn't be fastened. She handled it like a champ and just held it up with one hand!

I decided to decorate for Christmas before Phil gets back from Africa. I made that tree skirt!

The  mantle feels cluttered to me right now, so that might change.

I had fun wrapping garland up the staircase!

In other news my mom and step family made it down to see my show last weekend! We had Thanksgiving dinner too! It was fantastic!

Off and Running

I thought I'd share some pictures of a dress rehearsal of Oklahoma!

Lets start with my first scene:

And here's the end of Kansas City. I laugh because we on the bench pose at the end like we've been dancing the whole time, but we sure haven't done a thing! We're great ambiance though.

I'm happy with how the show has turned out. I think it looks beautiful and everyone is doing a pretty good job! I think I'll try to do more shows with this theatre, they've been fun to work with! 

In other news, this lady got a job. I'm an activity coordinator at a branch of The Friendship Center. It's a senior resource group that does Meals on Wheels, congregate meals, and opens up an activity hall in 6 different locations for seniors to come eat lunch and have fun! I really like my job so far. It's still a tad overwhelming, since I've never had a management level position before, but I think I'll be fine! 

Oklahoma!

Well hello there! I feel like my life has ramped up in busy-ness and as a result my blog has been neglected.

That aside, let me just tell you about my show that is opening in a little over a week. I have had a lot of fun learning how to dance again! I've never considered myself to be bad at dance, but it sure has been awhile since I've been challenged with legitimate ballet.

Also, to avoid a $75 costume fee I opted to provide my own. Let me show you what I've been up to today:

I made this here brown beauty today. I was going to do a plain circle skirt. Then I realized that my bolt of fabric was 45in instead of 60 in and thus not long enough to make a full circle at the length I needed. Bummer right? So I improvised and revisited some middle school math and made a smaller circle skirt with a ruffle making it the necessary length!

I also pointed my toes to take the pictures. It's a talent.

And guess what else? My Seven Brides for Seven Brothers dress lives on! The world can breath a sigh of relief. 

This happens to be the first costume that Phil saw me perform in! 

I can point my toes in this dress too!

Lately

Well I feel like I haven't posted in awhile. Not a ton has happened but I suppose there's always things to talk about, right?

I had my birthday this last week. I'm not going to lie, it was a little rough...at least for the first 3/4 of the day. We'll just say there was some craziness going on. It was stressful. The craziness wasn't with Phil, in case you're concerned. We're still blissfully married!

After Phil got home from work he treated me extra nice and let me kind of relax from the day. We went out to eat at a mexican restaurant near our house and then I watched So You Think You Can Dance. I had a couple friends come over for a board game last minute as well. My evening was much better.

Anything involving chocolate and peanut butter it an A+ in my book! I loved them.

Then this weekend we had our softball team out for a bbq and to see our house! It was fun to hang out with everyone out of the ballpark setting!

Last night I had some of my awesome friends from Once Upon a Mattress (the show I did last summer) out to watch the Tony's. We had a lot of fun!

So, basically it's been pretty busy, but fun. The show I'm in this summer, Oklahoma, is coming along well. I think it'll be good! If you want a sneak peak you can watch a rehearsal of the dream ballet that I'm in that is tagged on my facebook account!

It only took me a few months...

Awhile back I got really excited about making some of my friends baby gifts! And while that excitement didn't necessarily die down, the rest of my life picked up ie: buying a house, moving, the holidays, etc.

So anyways I thought I'd show off what I made...nothing totally new but oh well! It's still fun to look at!

I made a couple new changing pads and wipes cases! 

 I really like both fabrics!

I thought the dress needed a cute headband so I went to town with some fabric scraps and hot glue.

Now I need to go focus and make another leopard print baby outfit. Only this time she asked that it be hot pink! Ha! I'll let you know how it turns out. 

Next on my to-do list of sewing projects is to learn how to correctly size and make different patterns of my own. For that I'm hoping to go to the clearance racks of walmart or something buy some cheap baby clothes in different sizes that I can take apart and figure out how they work! Wish me luck!

On a non sewing note, I just got cast in a local community theatre production of Oklahoma! It should be fun, although a little weird. I got called back for the lead, Laurey, but that didn't work out. What makes it odd is that I was cast as a dancer. I definitely don't consider myself a dancer, per say. It should be a challenge though and I'm excited for that! I'll let you know how that turns out as well. 

Proud to be a Wildcat!

Okay so I'll admit, I've been very reminiscent lately. Todays thoughts led me through my collegiate acting experiences. I truly got to work with some amazing people in the theatre program and KSU and that makes me happy!

Nathan Jackson was doing graduate work at KSU and writing scripts while I was in the program. He truly has a talent in writing! He's since been accepted to Juilliard in play writing and his second show is being produced at the Lincoln Center in NYC! Here's an article in the New York Times about him!

ERIC STONESTREET! Although he was at KSU before I was around I'm proud to say that I went through the same program as him! It's cool to have an Emmy winner come from KSU theatre! Check out this video KSU did to spotlight him!

So many other people I've worked with have gone on to get paid to act in Kansas City and other cities around the nation! It's just cool!

You get to go and learn how to paint a famous painting, with step by step instructions. I just need to find a special occasion to justify our going to Phil! I thought it'd be more expensive than it is, but it is only $35! Ahhh I think it would  be fun....mine would look terrible...but it'd be fun!

In other news, Phil's sister came to visit us a few weeks ago! It was fun to have her around! I can't say we were constantly busy but I think we kept entertained. Regan and I went to the Galleria, a  great 1/2 price book store (which is her heaven), and to the Houston temple without Phil.

With Phil we went to Schlitterbahn outside of San Antonio and walked around the "alligator park" here in Houston.

Only in Texas can you walk around lakes full of alligators and no fences. The pictures above are from a different trip to the alligators. That time the alligators were sun bathing all over the walking paths. We kept having to scurry around them. With Regan they were feeding...so we were watching them fight and go nuts! It was lots of fun!

Since Regan has left not a whole lot has happened, except....

I auditioned for a musical...my first one since Urinetown at KSU which was 4 years ago! I have to miss 10 out of 35 days of rehearsal so I couldn't be a lead. They called me back anyways though for a lead which was nice! I got the part of Lady Mabelle. I don't know a lot about her other than she's basically a lady in waiting, is French, and flirts with the main character.


Speaking of France...Phil and I are actually going to have a little vacation in Paris in July! Hooray!!!!

Some Things I Miss At the Moment

Lately I've been really missing doing theatre... this picture makes me miss Brant too.

I miss doing musicals especially...and the KSU theatre department. I realized the other day that it has been over 3 years since I've done a musical. I haven't had that long of a break in between musicals since before I started doing them when I was 8. Seriously. I might have to find somewhere that will atleast let me be in the chorus.

I also miss my mom. She's awesome.

And these girls. I may have only lived with them for a year, but it was pretty awesome and I like them a lot.

I miss this girl a lot too. We've been through a freakish amount together and even though our lives have lead us different places we're still the same person.

I miss this girl because she and I always have fun together even if we haven't talked for months.

I also miss being in Kansas, especially in the Fall. I even miss going to school.

But the good news is I have this stud to keep me going! He trumps all of the missing feelings and I couldn't be happier with how my life has turned out thus far.
